2008 Overdrive Mini FRC

This year, the FRC competition is “OverDrive”.  The challenge is race around a track in a counterclockwise direction, scoring each time a robot completes a lap.  Four track balls, 2 for each team, can also score when each completes a lap.  The final element of the game scores 8 pts. when a robot  “hurdles” a ball over an “overpass.”   Building arms that could lift the ball over the overpass proved difficult.  Teams could knock balls from the overpass, but rarely could they lift a ball over or place a ball on the overpass. The obvious conclusion was low, speedy robots could complete a large number of laps in 2 min. racking up significant points. This design will likely be the most common type of robot encountered. One Trinity robot was designed to the shoot the ball over the overpass, but had difficulty capturing the trackball. Team 40's robot was designed  based on a number of outcomes discovered in the mini-FRC simulations.
