RSS January 5 – The 2008 FIRST robotics season kicked off on January 5th with the FIRST Overdrive game. Teams are required to build robots that will score points by completing laps around a racecourse. Team’s can score additional points by rolling a large inflatable ball around the course having it score laps or by picking the ball up and “hurdling” it over a 6 ft. crossbar. Team 40 spent the first week of the new season playing Mini-FRC, which is a one-third scale version of the Overdrive game. Six teams of students from Trinity built robots over the course of a week to race around the Overdrive course. Students from Pembroke Academy traveled to Intelitek to also participate in the game. Both teams left feeling much better informed about the game and some of the peculiarities that are likely to be encountered.
